EPHEMERAL, ETERNAL |  IMPROVISED SOUND DESIGN + LIVE CALLIGRAPHY

2016 | CONCEPTUAL CALLIGRAPHY PERFORMANCE AT ICE HILLS HOTEL IN TOBETSU

"Ephemeral + Eternal" was a collaborative conceptual live calligraphy performance by Aoi Yamaguchi and a Tokyo-based sound artist Corey Fuller, performed at Ice Hills Hotel in Tobetsu, Hokkaido. Inside of a hut-shaped bar lounge made entirely of ice and snow, even the chandelier, bar table and cocktail glasses, everything is "ephemeral, transient, impermanent" - that will all melt away and disappear in the Springtime. "Ephemeral + Eternal" was written by a large brush on a sheer fabric illuminated by the light, accompanied by Fuller’s ambient sound beautifully transforming this intimate space into a sublime dream, frozen in time.” - Aoi Yamaguchi
