NUMANO | SHORT FILM

Duration: 18:20

Synopsis

Numano, a single, young Salaryman in his 20s has been working at a small real-estate agent in Shinjuku for nearly three years. Already bored and disillusioned, he feels as if he has chosen the wrong path in life. In fact, in his gut he knows it and yet he lacks the courage and resolve to do something about it. Going through the motions, following the well-worn path, each day bleeds indistinguishably into the next. Each night he takes one of the last busses home, eats a convenience store dinner, downs a few beers and falls asleep scrolling mindlessly through his phone. Each morning he awakes, commutes to the office for more monotonous meetings. One night, Numano and a couple of his colleagues are working late. Numano steps outside on the roof for a quick breather, and believing that he has already left for the day, his colleagues lock Numano out. Stuck on the roof without his phone or any of his usual distractions, Numano is confronted with himself, the absurdity of it all and an epiphany finally makes him realize he needs to take back control of his life.
